It takes special characteristics to become a champion. It takes skill, dedication, determination and heart to win any championship. To accomplish championship status, not only once, but two years in a row shows true character and determination. These characteristics epitomize the players, coaching and management team of the 1985 and 1986 Prince Albert North Stars.
This Junior B team was the Northern Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League and Provincial champions in 1985. They went on to compete at the Western Canadian Championships, making it to the finals. In ’85 Barkley Rocheleau was the co-coach and Tom Lavallee the Manager/ Coach.
The 1986 team had many of the core group of 11 players return with Lavallee returning as Manager/ Coach joined by Terry Read as c0-coach. Once again they proved successful, winning the NSJHL and provincial championships and runners up at the Western Canadians.
The 1985 and 1986 North Stars showed the true mark of champions, doing whatever they needed to do to come out on top in the important games.
The team was known for having a number of “characters” on and off the ice. However most of the members of this team in later years gave back to the sport of hockey and their community thanks to the knowledge they learned of what it took to become a champion as a member of the Prince Albert Junior B North Stars.
